Welcome to our 27th Season!
First of all, thank you so much to all of our Patrons for your support last season. It was wonderful to see so many of you at all of our concerts. Even when we rescheduled our ‘Messiah’ due to a winter storm, your overwhelming support was much appreciated.
We are now very excited about this new season. We have one concert devoted to the music of Haydn and another to that of Mendelssohn. These two great composers have Anniversaries in 2009. Two concerts will feature collaborations with two of Southwestern Ontario’s finest musical organizations our very own Stratford Civic Orchestra and Orchestra London. SCC has been further invited to perform Brahms’s glorious German Requiem in Centennial Hall, London. Add to that the perennial favourites, Handel’s Messiah and music celebrating St. Valentine’s, and a great season awaits your musical indulgence!
We begin the season with a concert featuring music for which many of you have requested Songs of World War II. In this first concert of the season, we celebrate the lives of the Saints and that includes those who made the ultimate sacrifice. You will be invited to sing along with the choir in some very nostalgic songs.
We have wonderful soloists lined up. Returning this year are Anna and Gary Relyea and Brian Emery. We will also be joined by St. Mary’s native, contralto Heather Jewson.
Welcome again to this new season.
I look forward to seeing you at our concerts.
Thank you for your support to SCC in the past.
Best wishes,
Ian Sadler
Welcome to our 26th Season!
I write this just after the choir has returned from a very successful concert tour to the Maritimes. Some wonderful singing, large enthusiastic audiences and warm hospitality made for a superb week!
Refreshed and ‘ready to go’, SCC has another great series of concerts to present in this new season.
Our first concert, Christmas In Stratford, will showcase Benjamin Britten’s dramatic masterpiece, St. Nicolas Cantata. The central role will be performed by Canadian tenor, Darryl Edwards and will also feature Stratford’s own Civic Orchestra and Children’s Concert Choir. A wonderful cast indeed! The beautifully renovated sanctuary of St. James’ will be the perfect setting for this concert.
St. James’ will also be the venue for our annual Messiah performance. You will hear the newly rebuilt organ accompanying the choir and stellar cast of soloists. Returning this year are Anna and Gary Relyea and Christopher Mayell. We are joined by a rising St. Mary’s star, contralto Heather Jewson.
Our perennial favourite, Moonlight and Roses, will feature an afternoon of music of the heart and songs of love. For this performance SCC will be joined by The Stratford Trio. There will even be something here for audience participation!
The new acoustics and magnificent ‘new’ organ of St. James’ will again enhance your listening pleasure in our fourth concert of the season, A Sacred Feast. You will hear music from our rich sacred heritage
Mark May 24, 2008 on your calendars now! We round out the season with a rollicking Happy Birthday programme for Queen Victoria. Royal Regalia will be on display and the rafters of Central United Church will ring with the rousing music performed by choir, organ, brass and yes audience, too!
I look forward to seeing you at our concerts. Do take advantage of the series ticket. I believe it gives you one free concert.
Thank you for your support of SCC in the past.
Best wishes,
Ian Sadler
